When we talk about sources that keep us updated on security trends and news, we often mention cybersecurity blogs. However, many people often overlook another excellent source of knowledge — podcasts.

Personally, I prefer to listen to podcasts while driving or during long walks, as I can focus on 1-1.5 hours of content. There are two different types of cybersecurity podcasts I enjoy: entertaining and educational (though, honestly, most are a mix of both). I have a list of favorite podcasts and episodes that I regularly listen to, and I wanted to share it with the community to highlight the efforts authors put into keeping their content alive and to attract more listeners to these talented creators.

Don’t take this as a ranking — just a list of my favorite podcasts that I listen to on a weekly basis:

Darknet Diaries

This is where it all started—my first podcast, hosted by the talented Jack Rhysider, covering “true stories from the dark side of the internet.” Oh, and the episode thumbnails are incredibly cool and stylish—I even bought a couple of T-shirts with the design.

My Favorite Episodes:

  • Episode 126: REvil – The history behind one of the most infamous and profitable ransomware groups.
  • Episode 111: ZeuS – One of the most famous banking trojans, rise and fall.
  • Episode 72: Bangladesh Bank Heist – The most famous Lazarus hack, which almost led to the theft of nearly $1 billion from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York account belonging to Bangladesh Bank.
  • Episode 65: PSYOP – A fascinating episode on how the military conducts Psychological Operations to influence people’s thoughts.
  • Episode 64: The Athens Shadow Games – A cyberespionage story involving Vodafone Greece with a chilling James Bond-style twist.
  • Episode 54: NotPetya – A cyberattack on Ukraine's infrastructure, often compared to a natural disaster in terms of its impact.
  • Episode 53: Shadow Brokers – The infamous hack and leak of the Equation Group arsenal (EternalBlue, etc.). This episode still gives me goosebumps.
  • Episode 50: Operation Glowing Symphony – The story of how cyber operations supported direct military actions, including US cyberattacks against ISIS.
  • Episode 35: Carbanak – The financially motivated hacking group that redefined cybercrime.
  • Episode 30: Shamoon – A destructive wiper attack against Saudi ARAMCO, linked to Iran.
  • Episode 29: Stuxnet – Do I even need to introduce this one?
  • Episode 28: Unit 8200 – The Israeli Defense Forces’ elite cyber unit, known for some of the most advanced cyber operations.

Security Conversations

A newly launched podcast curated by the talented Ryan Naraine, joined by top professionals Costin Raiu and Juan Andres Guerrero-Saade.

This is, without a doubt, one of the best conversational-style security podcasts—a mix of entertainment and education content. Episodes air every Friday, covering the latest security news and trends. Every episode is worth listening to, offering a rare glimpse into the minds of top security experts.

Final Thoughts

Cybersecurity podcasts are badass—they help you stay updated on trends even when you’re on the go. They’re immersive and engaging, as shown in one of the standout Beers with Talos episodes, where the hosts rapid-fire interview a bunch of Talos employees.
