Video Games, Out of Box Thinking and Problem Solving Skills
Video games are not just a way to relieve stress - they also keep your mind sharp and help develop out-of-the-box thinking.
I LOVE video games. Actually, video games are what brought me into the world of information technologies and eventually, cybersecurity. Everything started with self-hosting Counter-Strike 1.6 game servers for friends and friends of friends. Every step was a challenge at that time: config files, network setup, NATing, port forwarding, and buying a static IP from the ISP. A lot of time has passed, but I still love games and enjoy spending a few hours of my free time exploring new worlds created by talented developers.
Here are some of my favorite games that are not only entertaining but also expand the mind and promote different ways of thinking and problem-solving:

Portal & Portal 2
Steam: Portal, Portal 2
Description: A masterpiece of gameplay, visual style, and storytelling. Portal 2, in particular, is a must-play with a cooperative mode for playing with friends (just don’t curse each other over misplaced portals!).

The Talos Principle & The Talos Principle 2
Steam: The Talos Principle 2
Description: Similar to Portal but with philosophical questions about existence and consciousness. A fantastic game with intriguing mechanics and a thought-provoking plot.

Factorio
Steam: Factorio
Description: A game about building and automating factories, loved by software developers and automation engineers. A new expansion, Space Age, is on the way.

Superliminal
Steam: Superliminal
Description: A mind-bending game that forces you to look at problems from new angles. Short but unforgettable.

The Witness
Steam: The Witness
Description: A relaxing puzzle game with tricky mechanics and a meditative atmosphere.
Final Thoughts
Video games, like any form of entertainment, are about balance. They can inspire, educate, and help unwind—but they shouldn't become the only way to spend your time. Happy gaming!
